Position Description:

The primary purpose for this position is to provide legal advice and counsel to management and staff to ensure that corporate policies and procedures are complied with and corporate responsibilities are met.

Required Education:

A JD from a law school of recognized standing combined with a BS/BA and license to practice law in Tennessee (or the ability to be licensed within six months) are required.

Required Experience:

A minimum of seven years of legal experience, with a minimum of three years of corporate in-house and/or major law firm experience is required. Familiarity with some or all of the following subject areas is preferred: employment law, equal business opportunity, regulatory audit and compliance reviews, general business litigation, bankruptcy, litigation management and gaming law.


Must have excellent interpersonal and client relationship skills with the ability to provide sound, clear legal advice. Must be able to proactively work with executive management to identify areas of opportunity. Must be computer literate and possess strong research skills.


Ability to draft briefs, contracts, procedures and reports; respond to regulatory inquiries; and draft and answer complaints; along with the ability to speak effectively before the judiciary, hearing officers, legislature, customers, contractors, corporate officers and directors and employees


Must be able to travel intra-state using company vehicle.  Must maintain a valid Tennessee Driver’s License at all times.

Salary Range:

The following duties are normal for this job and should not be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive.  Other duties may be required and assigned.


  • Assists the General Counsel in providing legal advice to the Board of Directors, executive management and other staff members to ensure that legal issues are resolved in an efficient and accurate manner
  • Represents the corporation in administrative and judicial hearings
  • Serves as legal counsel to the Human Resources Department
  • Investigates employee grievance issues
  • Provides training to staff and management on legal issues
  • Reviews and responds to Unemployment, EEOC, Workers' Compensation and other employment regulatory claims filed against the corporation
  • Manages the Minority Business Participation Program 
  • Supervises and assists outside legal counsel engaged to handle collection matters
  • Serves on various internal committees providing legal advice and assistance on a number of matters, including internet gaming, retailer compliance, tax and collections issues
  • Provides legal assistance on vendor, employee and retailer criminal background reviews
  • Supervises, directs and evaluates assigned staff, handles employee concerns and problems, assigns work, counsels and recommends disciplinary and other personnel actions, as required
  • Responds to questions, complaints, and requests for information by e-mail, telephone, in person or by mail from citizens, retailers, employees, department heads, etc.
  • Serves as back-up to the VP of Legal Services for Corporate Transactions
