NASHVILLE - The Tennessee Lottery is celebrating its seventh anniversary today with the announcement of “$2 Million Bonanza,” an instant ticket game with a top prize of $2 million, the highest in its history. The game will be available beginning February 1.

“Can you imagine scratching a ticket and learning you had won $2 million?” said Rebecca Hargrove, President and CEO. “That’s the kind of anticipation and fun that people enjoy, which is why this game is sure to be a hit with players. More importantly, ‘$2 Million Bonanza’ will raise important dollars for the education programs we fund.”

The Lottery also announced a new grand total of more than $1.9 billion raised for education programs in the state since it began seven years ago.

“We’re proud of the positive impact we have created for education programs in Tennessee,” said Ms. Hargrove. “After seven years, most Tennesseans have either benefitted from the Lottery directly or indirectly through a Lottery-funded education program, a cash or merchandise prize, commission earned from selling our products or a benefit gained by doing business with the Corporation.”

The new total of $1.913 billion for education comes after the Lottery closed its books for the second quarter of this fiscal year. Other details about the Lottery’s first seven years (Jan. 20, 2004 through Jan. 19, 2011) include:

More than $7.2 billion in gross ticket sales
More than $4.3 billion in prizes won by players
More than $472.6 million paid in retailer commissions
69 prizes won worth $1 million or more
