Coming February 5!

The Tennessee Education Lottery celebrated its ninth anniversary of operations on January 20th, shortly after closing the books on the most successful calendar year in the Lottery’s history. Total sales for 2012 surpassed $1.34 billion, a Tennessee Lottery record.

To help mark its ninth anniversary, the Lottery is launching a new game with the chance to win $3,000 a week—for life. “Win for Life,” an instant-ticket game that offers over $90,000,000 in total prizes including the top prize of a lifetime weekly payment, will be available at retailers on February 5. A minimum of $3.12 million is guaranteed for the top prize.

“It’s been a fantastic nine years, and last year’s record numbers provide the perfect reason to celebrate,” said Rebecca Hargrove, President and CEO of the Tennessee Education Lottery Corporation. “To date we’ve raised more than $2.55 billion for education-related programs in Tennessee, and our newest game should add yet another layer of fun for our players.”

The impressive returns from 2012 featured a 16.6 percent increase in sales for the Lottery’s drawing-style games thanks largely to record-size jackpots and the revamping of the popular Powerball game.

According to the Tennessee Student Assistance Corporation, the organization that oversees the Lottery-funded higher education programs, Lottery funds were used to assist approximately 103,000 students at higher education institutions in the state during the past academic year including 17,000 students in dual enrollment classes. In addition, Lottery funds were also used to support after-school programs across the state.
Details about the Lottery’s first nine years (Jan. 20, 2004 through Jan. 19, 2013) include:

• More than $2.55 billion raised for education
• More than $9.8 billion in gross ticket sales
• Nearly $5.9 billion in prizes won by players
• More than $640 million paid in retailer commissions
• 102 prizes won worth $1 million or more
