NASHVILLE - The juggernaut Powerball jackpot that has the nation abuzz with excitement soared to $475 Million last night after no ticket matched all six numbers drawn. The drawing produced over 49,000 winning tickets in Tennessee alone, along with a surge in jackpot fever that will grow until the next drawing on Saturday.

Once again, the Tennessee Lottery reminds players to have fun, play responsibly, and purchase a ticket early to avoid the rush. Tickets for the next big drawing must be purchased by 8:59 p.m. CT/9:59 p.m. ET on Saturday.

"People are having fun, sales are on the rise and it's all for great causes in Tennessee and beyond," said Rebecca Hargrove, President and CEO of the Tennessee Lottery.

"Here in Tennessee over 100,000 scholarships and awards are given each year with the help of Lottery funds, and those programs are getting an incredible boost this week."

The Lottery also held its inaugural drawing for Hot Lotto on Wednesday night, bringing a new, mid-size jackpot option to players. The jackpot for that game increased to $6.2 Million for Saturday.

Powerball is a popular drawing-style lottery game sold in 45 jurisdictions across the United States; Hot Lotto is a game offered by 16 jurisdictions.
