NASHVILLE – Tennessee Lottery President and CEO Rebecca Paul reported today that first-week ticket sales were approximately $41.3 million – a sure sign that Tennessee is well on its way to generating millions of dollars for education.

“We’re proud to announce a first week that has seen enormous success,” said Paul.

Of the $41,268,401 in ticket sales,

• $6,927,000 were sold in the Chattanooga region
• $6,765,600 were sold in the Knoxville region
• $9,972,000 were sold in the Memphis region
• $13,657,001 were sold in the Nashville region
• $3,445,200 were sold in the Northeastern region
• $501,600 were sold at retailers who have not yet been assigned to districts within the last week

“Every day we are hearing great stories from both retailers and players, and soon we’ll share in the excitement from students, as well,” said Paul.

One such player was Florence Blue of Greenwood, Miss., who was Tennessee’s first $25,000 winner. Florence, a RN with three children, bought her ticket in Memphis while sightseeing.

During the first seven days of sales, other top-tier winners included:

• 147 $1,000 winners
• 4 $5,000 winners
• 15 $7,000 winners
• 1 $25,000 winner

A list of the first week’s top selling retailers follows this release.

Now that instant ticket sales are underway, the Lottery will intensify its focus on Cash 3, which will launch on or before March 20. Cash 3 offers players the ability to pick three numbers from 000 to 999 to match them with those drawn that evening by the Lottery.

All Tennessee Lottery profits will go to education programs. Most immediately, the Lottery is charged with raising at least $88 million by July 1 in order to fund scholarships for an estimated 65,000 students expected to attend Tennessee colleges and universities next fall.
