NASHVILLE - Tennessee scored its first HOT LOTTO jackpot winner last night since joining the multi-state game in May. The lucky ticket was sold in Dyersburg and is worth $1.97 million in cash. Unique to other Lottery prizes, the withholding taxes on a HOT LOTTO jackpot are paid. So, the yet unknown winner will receive all $1.97 million of the prize. Please note that all Lottery offices are closed Monday, Oct. 14, in observance of Columbus Day. Offices will reopen Tuesday, Oct. 15.

A popular multi-jurisdictional drawing-style game, HOT LOTTO launched in Tennessee on May 12 and features all cash (not annuitized) jackpots starting at $1 million and averaging $5 to $6 million. Tickets cost $1 each, with a “Sizzler” option that triples all non-jackpot prizes and costs an extra $1. Drawings are held every Wednesday and Saturday night.

Playing HOT LOTTO is easy and similar to the Lottery’s big jackpot games, Powerball and Mega Millions. Players select (or “Quick Pick”) five numbers from 1 through 47, plus one additional number (called the “Hot Ball”) from 1 through 19 drawn from a separate pool. Eight non-jackpot prize levels range from $2 to $30,000, all of which are tripled if the player chooses the “Sizzler” option. Overall odds of winning a prize are 1:17.
