Lottery President & CEO Rebecca Hargrove congratulates the Ashelys!

NASHVILLE - With attention focused statewide on the $50 million Powerball jackpot ticket sold in Harriman, a beaming couple from Hohenwald quietly dropped by Lottery Headquarters in Nashville Monday to collect their $2 million prize won from the same Powerball drawing.

Tim and Zetty Ashley, who have been married for 32 years, remained in disbelief even after presented with the actual check by Lottery President and CEO Rebecca Hargrove. “I’ve never seen that many zeroes!” said Zetty.

The lucky ticket, purchased at Nick & Bubba’s Beer & Bait, 281 Summertown Hwy. in Hohenwald, matched five of six numbers drawn in Saturday night’s Powerball drawing, earning them the first $1 million. But since the Ashleys added the “Power Play” option for an extra dollar, the prize increased to $2 million.

According to Tim, when he checked the numbers from his ticket with the numbers drawn, he first thought his wife had given him the wrong ticket. “I was sure she gave me a ticket for a different drawing, because so many numbers matched,” he said. Once the two realized they were truly big winners, “we kept bumping into each other running around and around,” said Zetty.

The Ashleys are self-employed and plan to be careful with their winnings. “We’ll handle the money like a hen,” said Zetty.
