NASHVILLE - There's an as-yet unknown Tennessee Lottery player who won $2 million last night from a Powerball ticket purchased in Smyrna. The lucky ticket matched five of six numbers drawn, which begins as a $1 million prize. Since the player added the “Power Play” option for an extra dollar, the prize was doubled.
No additional information is known about the winner until the prize is claimed.
The Tennessee Education Lottery Corporation operates entirely from the revenue it generates through the sale of its products. Since January 20, 2004, the Lottery has raised more than $3.4 billion for specific education programs, including more than 900,000 college scholarships and grants, a variety of after-school activities, and the new Tennessee Promise initiative.
In addition to the educational beneficiaries, players have won more than $8.4 billion in prizes and Lottery retailer partners have earned more than $872 million in retailer commissions.
