NASHVILLE - The Tennessee Lottery’s newest online game, Lotto 5, produced one jackpot winner of $98,845 after its inaugural drawing Wednesday night. The drawing also produced 80 winners who won $212 each, and other 2,709 winners of $10 each. The winning jackpot ticket was purchased in Lebanon.
Prize amounts for Lotto 5 are pari-mutuel, which means prizes are based on sales and all winners share an equal portion of the winnings in each prize category. The game, which began on August 29, is easy to play: For $1 per play, players select five numbers from 1 to 39. If 3, 4 or 5 of those numbers are drawn in any order, the player wins. If there is no top-prize winner, the cash for that prize will be added to the top prize for the next drawing.
Drawings are held on Monday, Wednesday and Friday nights and can be seen at 10:34 p.m. CST on the Lottery’s television network partners throughout the state.
The Tennessee Lottery began selling its first instant tickets on Jan. 20, 2004. At the end of its first fiscal year, after just five months and 12 days of ticket sales, the Lottery had transferred more than $123 million to the Tennessee Lottery for Education account, as well as more than $2 million for after-school programs. All Lottery profits will go to pay for specific education programs in Tennessee, which initially include HOPE Scholarships.
