NASHVILLE—An estimated total of $878 million is up for grabs this week in the popular games of Powerball and Mega Millions. In fact, the Powerball jackpot was increased this morning to $460 million for tonight’s drawing, and the Mega Millions jackpot stands at $418 million for Friday night.

The Powerball jackpot ranks as the 7th largest in the game’s history. The jackpot for Mega Millions is that game’s 4th largest.

“These mega-jackpots are fun for players and great news for the education programs funded by the Lottery, said Rebecca Hargrove, President and CEO of the Tennessee Education Lottery Corporation. “We want to remind players to have fun, get their ticket early to avoid the last-minute rush, and to please play responsibly. It only takes one ticket to win.”

If one ticket matches all six numbers for either jackpot, the winner will have the choice of receiving the full jackpot in 30 annual payments or a cash option. The Powerball cash option is approximately $291 million before taxes and $261 million before taxes for Mega Millions.
