Third highest Jackpot in Tennessee history creates brisk sales, excited players

NASHVILLE - A word of advice to those interested in winning a staggering $300 million Powerball jackpot: Don’t wait until the last minute to purchase your ticket.

The estimated jackpot of $300 million (estimated cash value of $145.7 million) for tomorrow night’s drawing is the third highest in the history of the game, creating quite a stir throughout the state.

“Retailers are bustling, players are excited and it’s all for a great cause,” said Tennessee Lottery CEO and President Rebecca Paul. “With a jackpot this size, nearly everyone will try their luck. We strongly recommend getting a ticket the day before the drawing to avoid a last-minute rush.”

Additional details about this Powerball jackpot run include:

The run began on 12/17/05.
The drawing Wednesday night for the $300 million will be the 18th drawing in this run.
If the $300 million Powerball jackpot is won on Wednesday night, it would be the third largest in the game’s history and the sixth largest in the history of world lotteries.

Powerball drawings are held on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 9:59 p.m. CST (10:59 p.m. EST). In addition to Powerball, Lotto 5 drawings are held on Monday, Wednesday and Friday nights at 10:34 p.m. CST (11:34 p.m. EST). Drawings are held every night at 6:28 p.m. CST (7:28 p.m. EST) and at midday at 12:28 p.m. CST (1:28 p.m. EST) Monday through Saturday for the Tennessee Lottery’s other two online games, CASH 3 and CASH 4.
