Nashvillian Ernest Hackney, Jr. plans to enjoy a merry holiday season thanks to the $100,000 prize he won playing the instant game, Merry Money. “I’m going to pay a few bills and take a vacation,” said Ernest who works as an accountant for a local hospital. A family vacation turned into an extended period of fun for Vicky and Huey Becknell of Ovideo, Florida. During a Thanksgiving get-together in Pigeon Forge, the Becknells purchased five “Tennessee Cash” tickets at Zoomerz #75. A week after returning home to the Sunshine State, they discovered one of their tickets matched all six numbers in the drawing held Nov. 29 to win the jackpot of $687,479! It’s an early Holiday gift for a lucky player in Memphis who won $1 million playing Powerball! A change in number-choosing strategy proved profitable for colleagues from the Nashville law firm of Buffaloe & Associates who won a $10,000 Powerball prize from the August 21 drawing. NEW WEBSITE SPOTLIGHTS LOTTERY-FUNDED EDUCATION PROGRAMS
The Tennessee Education Lottery Corporation has launched a new website designed to spotlight the programs funded from the $1.77 billion raised since ticket sales began in January 2004. The website, www.seehowitaddsup.com, offers information about the variety of scholarships and grants available and a county-by-county breakdown of the number of students who benefit. “The story of how Lottery proceeds help education efforts in Tennessee has expanded so much since inception, when it was just about HOPE Scholarships, pre-K and afterschool,” said Rebecca Hargrove, President and CEO. “Beyond the basic HOPE Scholarship, there are unique and innovative programs designed to help foster children, non-traditional students, military service men and women, and many more. The story is bigger now, and it’s an important story to tell.

For Camden resident Dave Susewitt, winning was an unfamiliar experience. Education in Tennessee received a boost today with the announcement of a record fiscal year for the Tennessee Education Lottery Corporation, which will result in a transfer to the state of $288.87 million. This will bring the total generated since ticket sales began on January 20, 2004 to more than $1.77 billion. Gross sales for the fiscal year, which ended June 30, also set a new record of $1.14 billion, bringing the total gross sales since inception to over $6.61 billion. “We are thrilled with this year’s results,” said Rebecca Hargrove, President and CEO of the Tennessee Lottery. “Thanks to the hard work of so many and the support of players throughout the state, we continue to be a vital source of funding for education in Tennessee.”

The Tennessee Lottery is celebrating its sixth anniversary with the announcement of a new grand total of $1.6 billion raised for education programs in the state, as well as finalizing the launch date of “Mega Millions,” which will begin on January 31. “We’re proud of how far we’ve come and the positive impact we have created for education programs in Tennessee,” said Rebecca Hargrove, President and CEO of the Tennessee Lottery. “After six years, it’s likely that most Tennesseans have either benefitted from the Lottery directly or indirectly through a Lottery-funded education program, a cash or merchandise prize, commission earned from selling our products or a benefit gained by doing business with the Corporation.”

BENTON COUPLE CLAIM $4.85 MILLION LOTTO PLUS JACKPOT
The close-knit town of Benton, population 16,000, is abuzz with excitement about the $4.85 million win claimed Friday by Bruce and Carol “Guinnette” Maynard. Guinnette’s ticket, purchased at American Trading Post, 5015 Hwy 411 in Benton, matched all six Lotto Plus numbers drawn on Tuesday, Jan. 12. Bruce, a former truck driver, said the excitement of neighbors and others in the community is much greater than their own. “I was talking to one of my neighbors and he kept screaming and hollering and I wondered, why is he doing that?” he said with a laugh.
