LOTTERY GENERATES RECORD RETURN FOR EDUCATION |

Education in Tennessee received a boost today with the announcement of a record fiscal year for the Tennessee Education Lottery Corporation, which will result in a transfer to the state of $288.87 million. This will bring the total generated since ticket sales began on January 20, 2004 to more than $1.77 billion. Gross sales for the fiscal year, which ended June 30, also set a new record of $1.14 billion, bringing the total gross sales since inception to over $6.61 billion.
“We are thrilled with this year’s results,” said Rebecca Hargrove, President and CEO of the Tennessee Lottery. “Thanks to the hard work of so many and the support of players throughout the state, we continue to be a vital source of funding for education in Tennessee.”

LOTTERY CELEBRATES 6TH ANNIVERSARY WITH NEW TOTAL OF $1.6 BILLION RAISED FOR EDUCATION

The Tennessee Lottery is celebrating its sixth anniversary with the announcement of a new grand total of $1.6 billion raised for education programs in the state, as well as finalizing the launch date of “Mega Millions,” which will begin on January 31.
“We’re proud of how far we’ve come and the positive impact we have created for education programs in Tennessee,” said Rebecca Hargrove, President and CEO of the Tennessee Lottery. “After six years, it’s likely that most Tennesseans have either benefitted from the Lottery directly or indirectly through a Lottery-funded education program, a cash or merchandise prize, commission earned from selling our products or a benefit gained by doing business with the Corporation.”

BENTON COUPLE CLAIM $4.85 MILLION LOTTO PLUS JACKPOT |

The close-knit town of Benton, population 16,000, is abuzz with excitement about the $4.85 million win claimed Friday by Bruce and Carol “Guinnette” Maynard. Guinnette’s ticket, purchased at American Trading Post, 5015 Hwy 411 in Benton, matched all six Lotto Plus numbers drawn on Tuesday, Jan. 12.
Bruce, a former truck driver, said the excitement of neighbors and others in the community is much greater than their own. “I was talking to one of my neighbors and he kept screaming and hollering and I wondered, why is he doing that?” he said with a laugh.

Last night's Powerball drawing created nearly 21,000 wins in Tennessee, one of which was a $1 million win for a player who purchased the ticket in Memphis. This is the third prize of $1 million or more in two weeks and the 52nd such win since the Lottery's inception.

It took all of her strength to remain calm, but Memphis’ Jeannie Ford did just that on her arrival at Tennessee Lottery’s headquarters today to claim her $1 million Powerball Power Play prize. “It is taking everything I have not to go crazy,” said Jeannie, who made the trip to Nashville with her sister Beverly after learning she had won earlier in the day. “I looked at the (news)paper, then I looked, then I looked again. Then, I called everybody!”
