Job Description
The primary purpose of this position is to conduct investigations to determine the suitability of an individual or corporate applicant or the continued suitability of existing licensees. This position also is responsible for investigating complaints related to sports gaming.
Required Education
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Criminal Justice or related field required.
Required Experience
At least three years of regulatory or criminal investigative experience, or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience, which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Investigative experience in sports betting or other gambling or privileged activity is preferred.
Must be able to travel domestically and on occasion, internationally. Must maintain a valid Tennessee Driver’s License at all times.
Salary Range
$50,000 - $77,000 Based on ExperienceResponsibilities

Reviews applications and renewal applications for sports gaming applicants and licensees
Conducts in-depth personal and financial background investigations of individuals and companies seeking licensure for sports gaming to determine suitability
Conducts interviews of witnesses and other persons involved in the background investigation of existing and prospective licensees
Gathers, verifies and analyzes personal, professional, credit/ financial and educational documents; contacts other agencies, governments and professional organizations to obtain and verify information;
Researches, obtains, and reviews data from various databases and information systems to verify information and/or check for inconsistencies related to applicant or licensee information
Maintains applicant and/or licensee files and database
Investigates complaints from the public, patrons, and licensees, and maintains case files, gathers evidence and information, and interviews witnesses for the investigations
Gathers evidence and maintains chain of custody for law enforcement
Prepare letters, reports and written summary of findings relating to suitability of existing and prospective licensees
Cooperates with the investigation and prosecution by law enforcement of violations of the gaming law and regulations, including testifying as a representative of the Tennessee Education Lottery Corporation at judicial proceedings or hearings
Conducts inspections of applicant or licensee facilities and operations to make recommendations regarding suitability
Assures that all criminal activity involving sports gaming licensees is referred to the proper law enforcement agency
Protects confidentiality of background investigation information regarding each applicant and licensee
Establishes and maintains professional relationships with federal, state and local law enforcement agencies
Maintains working knowledge of Sports Gaming Act and the Sports Gaming Rules, Regulations and Standards
Consults with Director of Sports Gaming Regulation and other TEL personnel on policies and procedures that will maximize the effectiveness and productivity of the sports gaming investigative unit
Conduct investigations and develop case files for stolen tickets, validation attempts of blocked tickets, owner/employee ticket redemption claims, citizen or player complaints, TEL retailer compliance checks, and retailer inspections
Other related duties assigned as needed
