Job Description

The primary purpose for this position is to perform professional accounting activities required in the business operation of the Tennessee Lottery Corporation.  Duties include, but are not limited to: analyzing general ledger accounts, journal entry preparation, reconciling/auditing accounts, preparing spreadsheets, and performing additional tasks as assigned by the Manager.

Required Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or other business related field required.

Required Experience

A minimum of five years of GAAP accounting knowledge or financial accounting experience is required. Microsoft Excel at an advance skill level is required.

Automated accounting software experience, specifically, Microsoft Dynamics (or Great Plains) and Management Reporter, preferred

CPA or CPA candidate or Master of Accountancy is preferred.

Solid written and verbal communications skills required.

Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job may be substituted for required educational degree.

Salary Range

$49,000 - $77,000

Responsibilities

The following duties are normal for this job and should not be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive.  Other duties may be required and assigned.

Assists in the coordination and completion of month-end financial closings
Prepares daily, monthly and annual financial account analysis schedules
Prepares journal entries for routine, moderate to complex accounting transactions
Researches non-routine, complex financial transactions and prepares required journal entries
Analyzes details of expense transactions coded to general ledger accounts.  Identifies and executes corrections/reclassifications as necessary
Analyzes account and financial statement variances.  Executes corrections/reclassifications as necessary
Prepares daily and monthly general ledger account reconciliations.  Reviews for moderate to complex accounting activity
Prepares monthly budget versus actual variance reports for operational, gaming, and capital expenses for the company and individual budget departments
Maintains and monitors automated accounting and financial reporting systems. 
Assists with completion of annual budget package
Assists in the preparation of external, fiscal year financial statements and notes, and required schedules
Assists in the facilitation of external and internal audit processes
Remains abreast of statutory reporting requirements and prepares required IRS tax and other statutory reports
Maintains accounting system chart of accounts
Assist in training, development and work review of subordinate accounting staff
Monitors and updates internal procedures and recommends change where required
Prepares and reviews various financial reports – daily, periodic, or ad hoc basis
Responds to questions, complaints, and requests for information by telephone, e-mail, in person or by mail from retailers, citizens, employees, etc.
Prepares, maintains, and updates files, reports, and logs following prescribed methods
